Snow day

Today it is extremely cold because of the snow falling. The snow looks white and freezing. This the first time I have seen snow because there is no snow in Bangalore in India. In India we don't learn about snow because we worry about the heat. I don't think it should snow again because it is too cold.

Describing a process - making a bird feeder

Tawanashe wrote,
"First I spread with the knife seeds and margarine.  Then I hold the pinecone.  The teacher helps me and it is messy and sticky.  The teacher helps me tie the string and it has lots of seeds and the pinecone is brown."

Rafael wrote,
"First we get a pinecone and we spread it with a plastic knife.  We spread the butter and seed on the outside of the pinecone.  Then we tie the string."

Andrew wrote,
"First we get a little brown pinecone and spread some bird seeds on top of the pinecone.  Then we get a long grey string.  The teacher helps me tie the string at the bottom."

Describing a process

Room D students have been learning about describing a process.  Here they are with Miss Brown watching a movie about the life cycle of a butterfly.

Mrs Anthony helped the ESOL students to describe the first stage of a butterfly's life.
Here is Isaiah's writing.  He is remembering to use precise verbs.
Here is Hugo's writing.  He is remembering to use the present tense.
Nicholas is adding detail to his writing using adjectives.

Well done team!

International Parents' Meeting - National Standards and pronouns

On Thursday we met again to discuss National Standards and to share some of Aeny's yummy treats.  Thank you Aeny!
Here is a link to further information on this topic http://www.minedu.govt.nz/Parents.aspx

We also briefly discussed pronouns and I have found this image at http://jvanarsdale.edublogs.org/files/2012/10/pronouns3-22fum1t.gif
which may be helpful.

World Vision Day

Last Friday our Year 10 students organised activities for the whole school based around the theme of the amazing work done by World Vision.  Here are two of our Year 10 English Language Learners, Macdonald and Eugene demonstrating the use of a "tippy tap" to conserve water for hand washing.
